There are a couple of nice pieces of news in today’s edition. Pickleball players and burrito fans should both be pretty happy.
We’ve got the usual showers and storms over the next few days, plus a little activity in the Atlantic that doesn’t appear to be much cause for concern. This is the latest point in the year the Atlantic has ever gone without a hurricane forming.

This free, family-friendly outdoor market features artisan vendors, small local businesses, food trucks, and community organizations. Shoppers can browse textiles, jewelry, candles, signs, homemade baked goods, and other handcrafted items while enjoying plenty of space to stroll and eat. The market’s new location at First Baptist Church of Zephyrhills also offers ample room for vendors, food trucks, and parking.

Bubbakoo’s Burritos Arrives in Wesley Chapel
Those new buildings just south of The Hub at Lexington have a restaurant arrival. Bubbakoo’s Burritos is opening next to O’Reilly Auto Parts at 33791 Wesley Chapel Blvd., although the exact opening date is a little confusing. I tried calling the new location, but its phones were not up yet. The Zephyrhills restaurant told me Wesley Chapel opened yesterday, while Google Maps lists today.
Bubbakoo’s is different from the usual burrito spot because it leans into Mexican fusion and some less traditional combinations. You can still build your own burrito, bowl, salad or quesadilla, but the menu also includes creations such as a hibachi steak and shrimp burrito, a Birria Crunchstack, loaded tots and other unexpected options.
Pickleball Finally Gets Its Own Courts
Pasco’s pickleball players will soon have courts they don’t need to share with tennis. The county is putting $700,000 toward its first dedicated public pickleball complex, with nine lighted courts planned for the north end of Wesley Chapel District Park.
Here’s what players can expect:
Nine courts arranged in three groups, with shade structures and some bleacher seating between them
Additional parking, perimeter fencing and smaller dividers to keep balls from rolling onto neighboring courts
Mobile court reservations, plus space for open play, tournaments and organized programs
Restrooms will be available across the service road at the recreation center. Access will require either a $10 annual card or an existing county membership. Construction is expected to begin in December, with the courts targeted to open by early summer 2027.

Speed Camera Trial Coming to Wells Road
It’s no secret that traffic cameras are a touchy subject lately, and that’s understandable. For now, this is only a trial program. Pasco commissioners voted August 12 to move forward with two school-zone enforcement pilots near Wesley Chapel Elementary, Weightman Middle and Wesley Chapel High.
County studies found drivers averaging 32.5 mph at morning drop-off and 31.9 mph at dismissal in the posted 15 mph zones.
One pilot would issue a $100 citation at 26 mph or faster, with no license points or insurance impact.
The second would try to slow drivers without issuing tickets.
No vendor, start date or first school has been selected.
The county must still add data-security and cancellation protections, and signage will be posted before either system begins. Deputies will continue targeted enforcement in the meantime.
$40 Million Gift Backs Children’s Hospital
Families around Wesley Chapel are getting a major pediatric hospital closer to home, and it just received the largest donation in Johns Hopkins All Children’s 100-year history. Paychex founder Tom Golisano gave $40 million toward the new campus near I-75 and Overpass Road, which will be named Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Golisano Children’s Medical Center at Wesley Chapel.
The five-story, 56-bed hospital is part of a $300 million-plus investment and will include:
A 17-room emergency department
Four operating rooms
Outpatient care, rehabilitation, infusion services and more
Construction remains on budget and on schedule for a fall 2027 opening. The exterior walls, windows and roof are already in place, interior work is underway, and hiring has begun.
Pasco County Animal Services Presents: George
George (A051684) is a 7 year old, neutered male Walker Hound. George came to PCAS as a stray from Spring Hill. He was thin and appeared to have a broken or deformed leg. Turns out George does have a funky foot, but it doesn’t stop him. It actually makes him that much more unique! George is also heart worm positive, however his treatment is sponsored by our shelter. George is the perfect medium-sized dog at 45 pounds. Come meet this sweet guy!
