Good Morning From Lutz,

Feels like we got a nice reset after that storm Saturday. The weather’s been about as good as it gets right now, so no complaints there.

The Lightning may be out, but the Rays are rolling. We made it to the Trop Sunday with a bunch of local little league teams and it looked great. Also has you thinking about what that new Hillsborough park is going to turn into.

We’ve got a lot coming up around here too, including the Brooksville Blueberry Festival and plenty of markets to check out. Should be a solid stretch ahead.

9/11 Steel Beam Coming to Land O’ Lakes

Great news. A steel beam recovered from the September 11 attacks is traveling across the country, and it’s making a stop right here in Land O’ Lakes.

• The “Steel Across America” tour will be at the Let Us Do Good Village on May 17 at 11:00 AM
• A 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit will follow from 12:00–4:00 PM
• The tour includes 35+ stops nationwide, focused on remembrance and honoring those impacted

For those of us in Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Odessa, Citrus Park, and nearby towns, this is one of those rare moments where something nationally significant shows up close to home. If you’re around that day, it’s worth stopping by and taking it in.

Pasco County Animal Services Presents: Rufus

Rufus is looking for a hero! Rufus (A036283) is a 60lb, 5-year old black & tan neutered hound available as a waived-fee adoption. Rufus was brought to the safety of our shelter after being tied up in a backyard and his owner rejecting him. He is a good boy who, unfortunately, has been passed up by visiting adopters – he tends to jump and bark when people approach his kennel. Rufus is a playful dog and a volunteer favorite. He was recently treated to a “doggie day out” and was a gentleman at the park & pet store. Rufus has also participated in play groups, with a rough/rowdy/chase play style. Rufus would benefit from a home where he can feel the love that he did not receive where he came from.

Big Retail Project Growing Near SR 52

If you’ve driven up I-75 lately toward San Antonio or Dade City, you’ve probably noticed how much is starting to move up there. One of the biggest pieces of that growth is a massive project called Double Branch, and it’s starting to take shape in a real way.

Leasing is now underway for two main areas:
• The Shops at Double Branch – traditional retail like grocery, fitness, and everyday spots
• The Boardwalk at Double Branch – a more walkable, waterfront-style area with restaurants, events, and outdoor spaces

The full development is huge, with plans for retail, offices, housing, hotels, and even parks and trails, all centered right off I-75 and SR 52

Heads Up: Traffic Delays This Week

If you’ve been out driving around Pasco the last couple days, you’ve probably already felt a bit of this. There’s a full week of roadwork happening, and it’s sticking around through Saturday, May 9, so a few of your usual routes may take longer than expected.

• I-75 & SR 52 (near Wesley Chapel/San Antonio): Overnight ramp lane closures (8 PM–6 AM) causing backups
• SR 52 corridor: Eastbound lane closures overnight near I-75
• US 19 (west Pasco): Daytime lane closures through Friday, plus overnight work near Marine Parkway
• US 98 & Dade City areas: Daytime flagging and nighttime lane closures near the bypass
• SR 54 (Land O’ Lakes/Odessa corridor): Nightly closures starting at 7 PM this week

For those of us in Lutz, Land O’ Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Odessa, and Dade City, this mostly means planning a little extra time, especially at night. Nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year, but definitely one of those weeks where a quick route check before heading out can save you some frustration.
