Lutz Dojo Heading to the World Stage

Big news from West Coast Karate in Lutz as four of their black belt students are heading to Sweden to compete in the WUKF World Karate Championships starting July 9.

Brothers Samuel and Benjamin Stoddard, along with 12-year-olds Kaydee and Jordan, will represent both Tampa Bay and the United States. Their sensei says it's all thanks to their discipline, passion, and teamwork. Let’s cheer them on as they take their skills to the world stage!

Pasco County Animal Services Presents: Everett

Everett (A030211) is a happy go lucky boy with a special super power… he is actually deaf! While he is pretty well adjusted with his deafness, Everett does tend to startle a little by quick movement. He does follow hand gestures quite well. Everett is a friendly 3 year-old neutered mix breed male who gets along with other dogs and has been a perfect gentleman on recent field trip and event outings. And while he is good around children, he may be better suited in a home where the kids are a little older.

Twin Peaks Eyeing Citrus Park

Smokey Bones may be out, but Twin Peaks is on the way. A Citrus Park location is now in the works as part of a nationwide push to convert former Smokey Bones restaurants into sports bars with a broader menu, big screens, and a rowdy game-day vibe.

Pasco’s Big Boom

Pasco County is growing fast. The population has jumped from about 495,000 a decade ago to around 680,000 today. With over 669 construction projects underway and hundreds more in the pipeline, the landscape is filling up with new neighborhoods, hospitals, industrial sites, and even a high-rise town center in Wesley Chapel.

County leaders are working to keep pace with the growth by improving roads, expanding local job opportunities, and preserving green space. Traffic and housing costs are real concerns, but one thing is certain: this boom is just getting started.

Lots of projects are in the works as mentioned by the Tampa Beacon. We went around and got a couple shots of projects as well.

Everything is quiet on the hurricane front for now. But with all the scattered storms, here’s another water spout from Denis.

A Life Saved, Thanks to Strangers

You never really know when certain skills will come in handy, or be lifesaving. On June 25, Bruce and Tiffany Brown from Zephyrhills were just trying to enjoy a beach day on the East coast of Florida. Bruce ended up going into cardiac arrest while snorkeling.

Total strangers on Peanut Island jumped into action, doing CPR for 45 minutes and finally finding an AED in a restroom. Against all odds, they saved his life. Bruce is now back home recovering, and Tiffany’s message to the rest of us is simple: learn CPR. You never know when it’ll be your turn to step in.

New NICU Coming to Lutz

We talked about the progress in a past edition of the Buzz and now it’s coming to fruition. Starting July 15, St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in Lutz will open its very first NICU. This new unit includes "couplet care" rooms, allowing moms and NICU babies to stay together from the very start.

The eight-bed, 5,400-square-foot unit is designed to support high-risk births and keep families close during tough beginnings. It’s the first of its kind in our area and a big step forward for local maternity care.
