New Electric Buses Rolling Into New Tampa

A major change and step forward in the maturation of electric vehicle technology. Starting this school year, students in New Tampa and Tampa Palms neighborhoods may be riding in one of 36 brand-new electric school buses, part of Hillsborough County’s push for cleaner, quieter transportation. Schools like Freedom High and Greco Middle are among the first to benefit, with King High serving as the official hub for the county’s electric fleet and charging infrastructure.

Thanks to $14.8 million in EPA grant funding, the district purchased 40 electric buses and built a state-of-the-art charging station at King, where most of the fleet will be housed. The new buses are quieter, emission-free, and already getting positive feedback from drivers and students alike. It's a big win for cleaner air, better rides, and future-forward planning in our public schools.

US 98 Is Getting a Major Makeover

A little north and a little east, a pretty big transformation is taking place along US 98 in Pasco, and if you drive that stretch often, you’ll want to know what’s coming. Crews are currently widening the road into a four-lane divided highway from the Polk County line up to just north of Townsend Road. A realignment is also in the works that will connect US 98 directly to US 301 via Clinton Avenue.

To help with traffic flow and cut down on crashes, the project includes four new roundabouts. One of the biggest will be at the intersection of US 98 and Clinton Avenue, just east of 301. The whole project is designed to make commuting smoother and safer as our area keeps growing. You can follow progress and get updates on the FDOT website.

I feel like Carrollwood has been quite active lately and they are going to get a whole lot sweeter with the arrival of Everglazed Donuts. Opening August 11 at 14777 N. Dale Mabry Hwy, this Florida favorite is known for wild donut creations, bold cold brews, and viral-worthy chicken sandwiches. If you’ve been making the trip to Sparkman Wharf or Disney Springs, the sweet spot is now much closer to home.

Menu favorites include glazed donut chicken sandwiches, cereal-topped sweets like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut, and cold brew combos like the Reese’s Nitro and Purple Reign. Local QB Star on the Rise

Wesley Chapel’s own (Wiregrass Ranch) Rocco Becht is making national headlines. The Iowa State quarterback was just ranked the No. 10 QB prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft by college football analyst Phil Steele. Becht, now a three-year starter, has thrown a touchdown in 18 straight games and is considered one of the top QBs in the Big 12, just behind Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt.

After redshirting in 2022, Becht took the reins in 2023 and has steadily climbed the ranks with back-to-back standout seasons. His 2024 stats say it all: 3,505 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 8 rushing scores. With dual-threat ability and strong leadership, this Wiregrass Ranch grad is officially one to watch.

Pasco Fire Rescue Moves to New 24/72 Schedule

With another station on the way, Pasco didn’t just stop there in improving the quality and responsiveness of our firefighters. In January, Pasco County Fire Rescue will switch to a 24 hours on, 72 hours off schedule, giving firefighters more time at home and helping the department recruit and retain top talent. The shift from the traditional 24/48 model is aimed at improving work-life balance, mental health, and overall readiness on the job.

Union leaders say the change is already making a difference. Overtime hours are down, morale is up, and firefighters are excited to be more present for family milestones like birthdays and ballgames. Pasco is one of the first departments in Florida to adopt this schedule, and it’s already drawing national attention as a model for others.
