Happy Fall, Neighborino. Sister René Parman celebrated turning 105 with a round of golf. 105 reminds me of my scorecard after 18 holes. The biggest difference, though, is that I can see (unless I’m looking for the ketchup in the fridge). She’s legally blind and still teaching younger nuns how to swing.

That’s real perspective on the back nine.

MOSI Partners with Focus Academy to Build Job Skills

The Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) in Tampa has launched a program with Focus Academy, a charter school for students with cognitive disabilities, to provide real-world job training. Once a week, students rotate through stations at the museum, greeting guests, assisting with exhibits, and practicing workplace skills alongside MOSI staff.

For students, it’s about more than the tasks—it’s about confidence. Focus Academy’s Head of Schools, Elisabeth Radka, says the program helps students apply classroom lessons in real settings. One student, Victor Chacon, said he felt proud helping with MOSI’s famous Bed of Nails exhibit.

The goal is to prepare young adults for independence and employment. With hands-on experience and encouragement, MOSI and Focus Academy are showing students they can move beyond the classroom and play an active role in the community.

Pasco County Animal Services Presents: Finch

Finch (A037583) is a 4-year old neutered male red & white pittie. Finch is something special. He was part of an 8-dog abandonment case; he came in with a gnarly wound on his forehead and needed other medical treatment. After some TLC, Finch is doing much better. Despite where he came from, Finch is incredibly sweet. He loves to be close to his person. Finch has been an office foster for a few weeks – he is house trained, takes treats gently, and doesn’t mind having his feet cleaned. Finch does get some separation anxiety. He’s also energetic and playful when out in the spree. He is an amazing dog that will require additional medical attention, since he is heartworm positive.

Heads up on more school zone safety, mom and dad

Hillsborough is about to make school zone cameras tougher. Instead of just running at drop-off and pick-up, the cameras will soon stay on through the entire school day. That means if you’re more than 10 mph over during school hours, it’s a $100 ticket.

County leaders say the change is meant to clear up confusion about when cameras are active and keep kids safer. So when you see the new signs go up, just know the enforcement window is getting a lot longer.

Old Pasco Road Widening Advances

As we’ve all seen, crews have been busy prepping Old Pasco Road for its long-planned expansion. Pasco County just approved a $42 million contract that advances the project into full construction, locking in the widening along with new bike paths, sidewalks, and lighting.
