Good Morning Neighbor,

We mentioned the low flying mosquito sprayers going around the area in Friday’s newsletter. Be sure to wash cars sooner rather than later as the spray will get more and more difficult to get off your vehicle.

Anyway, that was a weird Halloween weather-wise! On our end, the kids managed to get almost all of their trick-or-treating done before the rain rolled in. Then came two more days of rain! According to Denis Phillips, we probably won't be having those drought conversations again for quite a while.

It sounds like folks in Central and East Florida got hit even harder. And with El Niño potentially influencing our weather over the coming months, we might be in for an interesting ride!

Happy November, everyone! Here's to a couple of months filled with family time, holiday traditions, and lots of eating! :)

-Mike

Highlights

New Vietnamese Sandwich Shop Opening in Wesley Chapel

A new family-owned Vietnamese restaurant is scheduled to open this month in Wiregrass Ranch. Tiên’s Sandwich, located at 2557 Mansfield Blvd., will serve banh mi sandwiches, beef pho, vermicelli bowls, spring rolls, and boba tea. Sandwiches will start at $8.95, with baguettes baked fresh in-house.

Owners Tommy Nguyen and Trang Le live in the neighborhood and spent time in Vietnam earlier this year learning different bread-making techniques. They've named the restaurant after their daughter and hope to offer an affordable alternative to the larger chains in the area. It's always nice to see a local family opening a business in their own community.

Former Zephyrhills Wendy's Becoming a Drive-Thru Bakery

It’s time to consume the goods from that massive Bauducco facility! Remember the old Wendy's at 5658 Gall Blvd. in Zephyrhills? Brazilian bakery company Bauducco Foods plans to turn that building into a drive-thru bakery, with an expected opening in July 2027. It'll actually be the company's first restaurant location in the United States!

Bauducco already has a presence in Zephyrhills, having opened its largest U.S. manufacturing facility here earlier this year. The company is known internationally for its panettone, cookies, wafers, and other baked goods. Between the manufacturing facility and now a bakery, it's nice to see the company continuing to invest in Zephyrhills.

$200 Million Committed to Moffitt's Pasco Expansion

There's another major investment tied to Moffitt Cancer Center's growing presence in Pasco County. Private investors have committed $200 million toward developing cancer drug manufacturing and research facilities around Moffitt's 775-acre Speros campus. An additional $47.3 million in federal funding has been proposed, potentially bringing the total to more than $247 million.

The goal is to develop and manufacture specialized cancer treatments right here in our area, while creating opportunities for local workers and students. The initiative projects 4,000 high-paying jobs and $2.6 billion in statewide economic impact over the next decade. Those are projections, not guaranteed jobs, but it's pretty remarkable to see the scale of what's being planned in Pasco County.

London Cybersecurity Company Expands to Wesley Chapel

Here's an interesting addition to Wesley Chapel. London-based cybersecurity company DSi Compliance has chosen The Grove for its second U.S. office, operating out of the SMARTstart Entrepreneur Center. The company specializes in cybersecurity and AI-powered technology that helps organizations analyze audio, video, and documents.

There's a local education connection, too. DSi Compliance is partnering with Saint Leo University to launch a student internship program in December, giving students hands-on experience with cybersecurity technology. It's nice to see an international company establishing a presence in our area and connecting with local students along the way.

Hillsborough College Changes Plans for Rays Stadium

There's been a change of plans for Hillsborough College as it prepares for the proposed new Rays stadium on North Dale Mabry. Rather than holding classes in temporary buildings next to the construction site, the college now plans to move classes to USF's medical simulation center in downtown Tampa and office buildings at Tampa Bay Park, less than a mile from the current campus.

The temporary campus known as "The Nest" will still house student services, administrative offices, the library, and bookstore. The college also plans to offer shuttle transportation to help students get around. With roughly 22,000 to 27,000 students attending the North Dale Mabry campus, this is a pretty significant logistical change as plans for the stadium continue moving forward.

Pasco Approves $2.43 Million for Job Training

AmSkills is a nonprofit based in Holiday that helps Pasco residents develop skills for manufacturing and technical careers. Its training programs are supported in part by the Penny for Pasco sales tax, which funds local economic development and job opportunities.

Pasco County has now approved a three-year, $2.43 million agreement with AmSkills, aiming to train 600 residents and help 180 secure full-time jobs by September 2029. Funding is tied to results, with the county paying $1,500 per person trained and $8,500 for each verified job placement. Last year, AmSkills reported 242 participants and 64 job placements.
