Good Morning Neighbor,

It looks like we're settling into a classic June weekend with highs in the 90s, plenty of sunshine, and not much rain in the forecast.

Of course, it's also Father's Day weekend. Whether you're spending time with Dad, calling him, firing up the grill, watching the U.S. Open, or sneaking in a round of golf, I hope it's a good one. There are plenty of local happenings around town as well, giving everyone a reason to get out and enjoy the community.

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and let's see what’s happening!

-Mike

Einstein Bros. Opening This Month

Another new dining option is on the way to Land O’ Lakes. Einstein Bros. Bagels plans to open later this month at 22402 Catfish Lake Lane, bringing its fresh bagels, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and catering services to the growing community.

The new location will feature indoor seating, dedicated mobile-order pickup space, and daily hours from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's part of the company's continued expansion across the Tampa Bay area and is expected to help create new local jobs as it opens its doors.

Driving Range Approved For Northdale

Golfers in Northdale will soon have a new place to work on their game. Hillsborough County commissioners unanimously approved plans for a driving range at Northdale Golf & Tennis Club, replacing seven former tennis courts along Northdale Boulevard.

The new range will include 12 to 15 covered hitting bays and Toptracer technology that tracks shots and provides game-style practice. Residents largely supported the project, pointing to recent improvements made by the club's new ownership, which has already upgraded the clubhouse and other amenities. A construction timeline has not yet been announced.

Lutz Student Earns National Recognition

Pretty impressive work from a local student. Steinbrenner High School sophomore Ishanvi Sabniveesu earned second place at the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals for creating an AI-powered smart cane designed to help people with visual impairments navigate their surroundings.

The invention uses an AI camera and Bluetooth earpiece to provide real-time descriptions, navigation guidance, and obstacle alerts. Sabniveesu has already filed a patent application and also founded an online nonprofit that connects people living with chronic illnesses to peer support networks.

Children’s Hospital Reaches Major Milestone

A major healthcare project in Wesley Chapel hit an important milestone this month. Construction crews placed the final steel beam on the new Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, marking the structural completion of the five-story facility.

When it opens in 2027, the hospital will include 56 beds, a 16-room emergency center, inpatient rehabilitation services, operating rooms, imaging suites, a pharmacy, sleep lab, and outpatient care center. The project is designed with room to expand as the community grows, bringing specialized pediatric care closer to families across Pasco County.

Arthur Offers Early Season Reminder

The first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season came and went without impacting Tampa Bay, but it was a good reminder that hurricane season is officially here. Tropical Storm Arthur formed along the Texas coast before moving across the Southeast, bringing heavy rain, flooding concerns, and even tornado threats to parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

Fortunately, Arthur stayed well away from our area. Local meteorologists noted that Tampa Bay was not expected to see any impacts from the storm, but with six months of hurricane season still ahead, now is a good time to make sure your supplies and plans are in order.

Lutz School Proposal Faces Opposition

A proposal to build Apex Academy, a private K-8 school serving up to 1,000 students, is facing strong pushback from Lutz residents. More than 30 neighbors attended a recent Hillsborough County land use hearing to oppose plans to rezone property at Holly Lane and Dale Mabry Highway for the school.

Residents raised concerns about increased traffic, emergency response delays, flooding, and the impact on Lutz’s semi-rural character. The developer says the project would include traffic improvements, including a new signal and road widening. A decision on the rezoning request is expected within the next two weeks.
